Orpheus – Shake It Up

Excerpts from the journal of Connor Galloway, an employee of Orpheus and member of Crucible 7.

Richmond Virginia, October 21, 2013.

Over the weekend we were inundated with new stories surrounding the events at Bishop’s headquarters. Luckily for us the only footage making the rounds was terribly grainy and taken from a cell phone. We saw the same ten second clip over and over on every network and the message being told was always the same. Politicians from all over the country were making their opinions known, calling the behaviour ‘unacceptable’ and begging for regulations to be put in place. Even those who weren’t openly decrying the act, those who were simply happy to have the Pigment off the streets, were calling for sweeping law changes.

Orpheus – Haywire

Excerpts from the journal of Connor Galloway, an employee of Orpheus and member of Crucible 7.

Richmond Virginia, October 19, 2013.

Back on the roof of the Orpheus building we were met by Lisa and Prator. Needless to say, when we told Prator about everything that happened on the Andromeda he was taken aback. The swarm of spectres, the black ops team, and the news that there were anti-ghost weapons out there gave us all plenty to think about. I handed over the relocked briefcase without comment and he told us that no other crucible could have handled the situation as well as we did. Lisa took the girl we rescued, Taylor, under her wing and led her inside.

Orpheus – Flood

Alaskan Airspace, October 19, 2013.

Descending into the bowels of the cruise ship began to feel like deja vu. The first four floors, all belonging to passengers, looked identical if you ignored the large lettered sign which told us what deck we were on. From the stairwell we would see long hallways, with doors either side, that stretched down towards the front of the ship. We made of note of Deck C, where David Clarke’s room was located, and carried on down.

The fifth floor we visited, Deck G, was partially submerged and water was trickling out of doorways and dripping from the roof. If the constant groaning of the ship wasn’t enough of a reminder that we needed to hurry that sight brought it home.

Orpheus – Digging

Excerpts from the journal of Connor Galloway, an employee of Orpheus and member of Crucible 7.

Richmond Virginia, October 18, 2013.

After we admitted Lehto to his new room I excused myself from the others to head down to the gun range. Markus tagged along, looking forward to another session with Hollis. We were handed the same kind of 9mm pistol I’d used in my first lesson and as Hollis got Markus up to speed I let off some steam at the firing lanes. I think I was just looking for something else to focus on other than Lehto’s situation.

Mission #0794

Investigative Consultant Mission Briefing
MISSION #0794

MISSION TYPE: Retrieval and/or Fumigation

TARGET: Mathew Lehto and Potential Unknown Ghost Accomplices

EMPLOYER: Orpheus

BACKGROUND
Orpheus Group recruited Mathew Lehto three years ago in one of our earliest crucibles when he was 27 years old.  Prior to recruitment he attended a prestigious Ivy League university on a need-based scholarship.  He worked his way through graduate school with several highly competitive internships, and left with an MBA in finance.  After graduation, Lehto worked as a financial advisor with Morgana Financial, a high-profile investment bank; his first NDE was at the hands of a bank client, who, hit hard by the recession, responded with a shooting spree in the investment office.  The incident left Lehto and three staff members critically wounded.

Orpheus – Fairfax

Excerpts from the journal of Connor Galloway, an employee of Orpheus and member of Crucible 7.

Richmond Virginia, October 16, 2013.

After we ended the call to Washington Dahlia asked me again if I was feeling alright. I tried to wave her off but I think she’s probably seen people in my state before. Thankfully Dan strolled in at that point and the attention shifted to him. He was projecting. We asked him what he’d been up to and he revealed that he’d been driven up to Langley, where the CIA are located, and put through some tests. It seems that he’d been pegged as a possible candidate for the new PSOC or Projector Special Operations Corps. He assured us that he hadn’t made up his mind yet as to whether it was something that interested him.

News Bulletin

We’ve received an exclusive videotape from the Melrose Hotel in Washington DC depicting some truly extraordinary events! We should warn you, this footage may be unsettling for younger viewers
<cut to security camera footage with voice over>
*woman walks slowly out of her door into a hallway. Slowly, she walks down the hall.*
Here we see 49 year old Abigail Horner allegedly posessed by a malevolent spirit. The spirit is taking her towards the pool area, presumably to drown her in a horrendous display.
Thankfully for her, several Orpheus agents are staying just down the hall
*Cut to Dahlia and Connor walking down the hall*

– the rest of the scene is shown as captured by security cameras. The footage is grainy and doesn’t show much, but does solidly show the action from that point of view.

The reporter then interviews the woman. While she was terrified, she also genuinely thanks the Orpheus agents for saving her life.

“While Orpheus agents are instructed not to speak with the media, a spokesman for the company did inform us that Orpheus Agents take it upon themselves to protect the innocent whenever possible, and that the actions of the agents in questions were well within guidelines and to be applauded.”

“But this does raise the question- what is our country doing to…”

Orpheus – Dealing with Death

Excerpts from the journal of Connor Galloway, an employee of Orpheus and member of Crucible 7.

Washington DC, October 15, 2013.

There was more coverage on the news about the Death Merchants last night. One of the reporters even likened them to Orpheus but was quick to point out that the company had thus far stuck to the law. Some cell had popped up in Mexico, killing a drug lord while he slept in his house surrounded by guards. After seeing the footage I found it rather hard to get to sleep and after a few hours of restless dreaming I was woken by a ringing noise.

It was my phone on the bedside table and at first I though it must be morning and that I’d forgotten to turn my alarm off for the trip. But, as I looked over I saw that it was 3am and Dahlia was calling. I rubbed my eyes a little before answering.
“Hey, what’s up?”
“Hi,” she sounded a lot more awake than I was, “could you come over to my room for a second?”
“Sure,” what on earth could this be about, “I’ll be right there.”

Orpheus – Roadtrip

Excerpts from the journal of Connor Galloway, an employee of Orpheus and member of Crucible 7.

Richmond Virginia, October 14, 2013.

Early Monday morning I got back to the office. It was already quite busy when I arrived and I overheard someone talking about the ‘Death Merchants’ that had been reported on the news. Apparently these mercenary groups of projectors had cropped up in third- and second-world countries, working for drug cartels, warbands, and the like.

Entering the office I found Dahlia and Markus already at their desks. I’d brought in a bunch of books that I thought might prove interesting and plopped them down on my own desk telling the others that they should feel free to read them. There was an email waiting for me that said our DC meeting had been pushed back to Tuesday, but our reservations still applied to tonight. It was clear that the others had received the same email.

Orpheus – Fumigation

Excerpts from the journal of Connor Galloway, an employee of Orpheus and member of Crucible 7.

Richmond Virginia, October 12, 2013.

It was four-thirty in the morning when we met back up at Orpheus. The building was practically deserted because of the hour and the fact that it was the start of the weekend. There were still quite a few spooks wandering around though. I guess some people don’t really have a choice but to stay here. We took out one of the company cars and made our way back to the parking lot by the Drink.

We parked the car and hopped out to wait. I found myself leaning back on the bonnet as the others milled about. The sun was just coming up when we spotted Ken, right on time. He walked purposefully down the road his hands dug deep into the pockets of his iconic detective’s overcoat. He looked a bit worn out but moved quickly towards us. Dan asked how he’d got on ‘down at the river’ and Ken only commented, “well, at least I made it back this time.” He didn’t have any more information on Bishop but said he’d done a bit of digging for us. Apparently Terrence Richards, the lawyer, had been spotted around a place called Sheltering Palms somewhere on Churchill. With no other business we planned to meet again at the same time next week.
